I should have known...

Remember that lovely Christmas I mentioned? Ya, it all went to out the window...

In a haze of that-was-really-nice-wasn't-it-maybe-things-are-getting-better we agreed to go over on NYD for crepes.

After all these years I should know better - but apparently I don't because I drank a lot before I went.

Lots of tea & water + my small bladder = 3 trips of the washroom

On the third I opened the door to find my MIL standing right in the front of the door waiting to ask 'Is your bladder no good?'

Argh.

Credit when credit is due

We had a lovely Christmas. No really, it was easily the best Christmas of my married life.
There was two days of love, yummy food, amazing gifts and I couldn't have asked for more.

There was even a moment over the oplatek when the MIL professed that she wanted to be a better Mother-in-Law.

What can I say - I believe in Santa Claus.

For those of you keeping score

No, we haven't spoken to them and yes, the FIL sent the Kiddo an Easter card and the Hubz a Birthday card.

No, we haven't open either and yes, the curiosity is killing me.

Reasons I love My Mother-in-Law - Part Seven

So, my MIL is from Poland and thus speaks Polish (frankly better then she speaks English). I, on the other hand, do not speak of word of Polish.

She has a charming habit, take our 'festive' NY dinner today for example, of carrying on entire conversations in Polish.

An hour long dinner and not a word of English. The Hubz and FIL answer her in English but she continues to speak in Polish.

According to the Hubz, I was the luckiest one at the table.

Santa has come early this year!

My in-laws are spending the holiday in Mexico. The funny thing is they thought this might upset us.

I am not a total Grinch, we'll celebrate with them when they return.

But for now I am rejoicing in the fact that Christmas Eve will be spent with my nearest and dearest. My favourite people in the world; the hubz, the kiddo and my puppers.

Reasons I love My Mother-in-Law - Part Five

I have a potentially life threatening seafood allergy. Something my MIL does not take seriously at all.
It could have something to do with the fact that she changes allergies and food intolerances on a daily basis.

One day she won't drink milk because it gives you cancer, the next day she will only eat dairy because it is good for your skin.

She doesn't use vinegar because it gives her (and I quote) 'yeast issues in her stomach'.

But I digress. It is a Polish tradition that no meat is eaten on Christmas Eve. In fact before I came on the scene X-mas Eve was a virtual seafood festival at the In-Laws.

After my first fish-filled Yule dinner at their place (in which I ate Veggie Lasagna over 5 courses) my MIL kissed me on the mouth and told me to not take the 'silly fish thing' so seriously.

I spent Christmas Day covered in Hives.

Merry Christmas.

(p.s. Since then we have hosted X-mas Eve at our place)

Reasons I love my Mother-in-Law - Part One

A few months after I started living with my now Husband, I did as any good daughter-in-law-to-be would do. I invited my MIL out for an afternoon of lunch and Christmas shopping.

Sounds pleasant enough doesn't it?

Boy was it ever. There is nothing better than enjoying a chicken pesto sandwich while the mother of the man you are with drones on and on about how wonderful his ex was, how great a couple they were, how he did wrong by leaving her and how much she wanted to get married and have a family.

Merry Christmas.
